A Forum for Young Physiologists - General Info 

A big highlight of the meeting is the awarding of the Young Investigator Award sponsored by the "Stiftung für Physiologie" (former Oetliker Foundation) for young researchers in Physiology.

This year the Young Investigator Award will have 6 Awards: 3 for PhD students and 3 for junior Postdocs (< 5yrs after PhD or MD defense)* in the following categories:

  • The best talk: 400 CHF
  • The 2nd best talk 200 CHF
  • The best poster with flash presentation: 150 CHF

IMPORTANT: Please note that due to the requirements of the Stiftung für Physiologie, you have to be a member of the LS2 Section Physiology at the deadline for abstract submission. All criteria and regulations of the award can be found here.

Abstract guidelines and selection procedure 

1. Abstract Content:

  • Register for the meeting prior to abstract submission
  • The abstract should be understandable for non-specialists.
  • General physiological relevance of the work should be emphasized.
  • Methods should be discussed only where required for understanding the work.

2. Abstract Format:

Please, limit the TOTAL number of words (Title + authors + affiliation + abstract text) to 500. The meeting booklet online will not contain the full abstracts. A full printed version of the booklet will be handed out on-site.

3. Abstract selection by the jury & presentation by the applicant

After submission deadline, each abstract will be read by the jury members and scored with 0-10 points. After scoring:

  • The 8 abstracts (4 PhDs students + 4 Postdocs) with the highest mean number of points will be selected for a talk (10 min presentation + 5 min discussion).
  • The 6 following abstracts (3 PhDs students + 3 Postdocs) will be selected for a poster flash presentation (5 min presentation + 2 min discussion).
  • All participants with an abstract (independently from YIA competition) will have a spot to exhibit their poster during the meeting.

4. Criteria that will be taken in consideration by the jury for the oral presentation:

  • Quality of content
  • Systematics of the presentation
  • Clarity of expression
  • Respect for time limits
  • Communication skills with the audience
  • Quality of slides / tables / graphs
  • Quality of replies to questions

5. Final assessment by the jury

The number of points attributed for the abstract will count as 50% for the final score.
The average mark based on criteria for oral presentation will bring another 50% to the final score.

All participants who send an abstract will have a spot to hang and present a poster. 

The poster size should be A0 (portrait format, height 120 cm, width 90 cm).
