Our concept
The "Theory Across Biology" workshop focuses on mathematical approaches to biology. We aim at highlighting shared concepts and mathematical principles that underly the complexity of biological systems from molecular scale to the scale of entire ecosystems.
To sharpen the focus on overarching concepts all presentations will be held as chalk talks. This format will facilitate cross-disciplinary exchange and create an interactive atmosphere of mutual learning.
Very distinct biological processes may be described by similar mathematical formalism. Thus, there is a great potential for synergism among biologists even if they are studying very different biological systems. However, constraints of traditional research conferences often restrict elaboration on conceptual and mathematical principles across traditional disciplinary boundaries. This meeting will create a platform to overcome this limitation to establish connections orthogonal to existing networks.
In addition to chalk talks, there will be flip chart presentations (replacing traditional poster session) to foster interactions among all conference participants.
