A Forum for Young Physiologists - General Infos 

A big highlight of the meeting will be the awarding of the Young Investigator Award by the "Stiftung für Physiologie" (former Oetliker Foundation) for young researchers in Physiology.

6 Awards will be given, 3 for PhD students and 3 for junior Postdocs (< 5yrs after PhD or MD), for:

  • The best oral presentation: 1000 CHF
  • The 2nd best oral presentation 500 CHF
  • The best poster presentation: 500 CHF

Please note that due to the requirements of the Stiftung für Physiologie, you have to be a member of the LS2 section Physiology at the time of the meeting to enter the competition for the awards!

During abstract submission, please choose whether your abstract should enter the poster or talk competition for the award and whether it enters the PhD student or junior Postdoc category.

Abstract submission is closed, candidates will be informed by mid of August!

Entering the Competition / Format of Talks and Posters 

In the registration form you may indicate which format you prefer, poster or oral presentation

1. Abstract Content:

  • The abstract should be understandable for non-specialists.
  • General physiological relevance of the work should be emphasized.
  • Methods should be discussed only where required for understanding the work.
  • Participants in the Young Investigator Award should register for the meeting prior to abstract submission (abstract entry opens after completion of the registration).

2. Abstract Format:

Please, limit the TOTAL number of words (Title + authors + affiliation + abstract text) to 500. The meeting booklet online will not contain the full abstracts for confidentiality reasons. A full printed version of the booklet will be handed out on-site.

3. Application for the Poster Award:

The posters can be visited during the poster session & lunch break and will be assessed by the jury members during that time. The poster format during the meeting is A0 portrait oriented (width: 84.1 cm / length: 118.9 cm).
**NEW**: The poster Jury shall select four finalists that will present their work after lunch in front of their posters to everybody (5’ presentation + 3’ discussion)

4. Application for the Oral Presentation Award:

Duration: 10 min presentation + 5 min discussion

Criteria that will be taken in consideration by the jury:

  • Quality of content
  • Systematics of the presentation
  • Clarity of expression
  • Respect for time limits
  • Communication skills with the audience
  • Quality of slides / tables / graphs
  • Quality of replies to questions

5. Assessment by the jury

Each abstract will be read by the jury members which will attribute 0-10 points. Abstracts with the highest mean number of points will be selected for oral presentation. The number of points attributed for the abstract will count as 50 % for the final score.
The average mark based on criteria for oral and poster presentation (see above) brings another 50 % to the final score.
