What was about

1st Swiss symposium on Innovation in Undergraduate Teaching of Life Sciences

This 1-day symposium, initially planned on 17th April 2020 at Campus Pérolles, University of Fribourg aimed to create a forum and a community to help improving the quality of undergraduate education in the life sciences in Switzerland. To our knowledge, this was the first time for Switzerland that program directors and coordinators, teachers, student counsellors, discipline-specific educational scientists and others would have had the opportunity to meet to discuss discipline-specific instructional innovation. Swiss participants could expose themselves to the best international leaders in the field

Topics included:
Shifting the emphasis from teaching to learning - Active learning - Flipped classroom - Addressing student misconceptions - Promoting conceptual understanding - Integration of basic sciences - Computational biology skills - Technological innovation - Integrating MOOCs - Practicals with large classes - Authentic assessment - Discipline-specific societal issues - Assessing impact on learning rather than student satisfaction - Preparing for non-academic careers - English as teaching language - Faculty development - Teaching assistants - Switzerland-specific institutional issues, ...

However, due to COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Symposium was cancelled, instead, a series of webinars on the same topic has been organised for 2021. Look at all details here
