Title: Whole-brain functional imaging using light-sheet microscopy
Abstract: Imaging neuronal activity in an intact organism, owing to the spatiotemporal scale involved, is a unique challenge and remains unaddressed fully by traditional bio-imaging techniques. Among various emerging neuronal imaging techniques, light-sheet microscopy addresses numerous challenges encountered in functional imaging of the nervous system, as it provides a combination of high spatial resolution, ultra-fast imaging speed, large physical coverage, and low energy load for long-term imaging under physiological conditions. In this talk, I will discuss our ongoing technological advancements to light-sheet microscopy for neuronal activity imaging in embryos and larva of semi-transparent organisms such as Drosophila and zebrafish.
